Week 10

Learned  This week we prepared for our final exam by going over a brief review of our semester so far. We then got to make books about evolution; this was super fun. I learned about T-Rex and Chickens; it was entertaining and fantastic to learn about how birds have evolved.  Related In this lab, I related the knowledge we have been learning and used it to make our PowerPoint/ book. In this lesson, we could use all our knowledge of the 5E model and NGSS to make a fun story about our chosen topic. Apply to teaching I will definitely use this lesson in the future. It was so fun and very interactive, and it even offered a fun element of working in a group. It was fun to use this, and it was also fun to listen to all of the other groups' stories and topics they chose to write a book.  Clear and Confusing Nothing was confusing! It was really cool how understandable this activity was; I loved how students could have fun with it! Questions No questions at this time; ...

Learned  This week was cool because we combined almost all of our life science knowledge and used it together. We did a beans activity that helped us learn about predators and their effects. We then did a rabbit simulation that helped us understand natural selection.  Related In this lab, I related the knowledge we have been learning about life sciences to the simulations we did. We could relate our genetics and natural selection knowledge to the different simulations we did. Having prior knowledge about life sciences as a whole made these simulations much easier to understand.   Apply to teaching This simulation with the beans was fun and engaging, but it was overstimulating; we could do it with students in a way that isn't as overstimulating. I liked the rabbit simulation; it was really fun to play with the different settings and see the effects we change and what it does to the rabbit population. I would defiantly use the rabbit simulation in my teaching, but I ...

Week 8 Lab Learned  This week was a lot of review due to the test we have in the next class. In lab today, we started by checking on our fast plants; unfortunately, they are officially dying, and some are even dead. We then reviewed genetics, but we learned a lot about mutations today. We did a super fun activity on paper in which we determined if an "average joe" could mutate into a supervillain and a superhero; I learned about the different ways that genetic mutations can affect a superhuman in virtual life vs. how scary genetic mutations can be for humans in real life. We also went on a virtual website and mutated the genes given to us in the simulation. It was really cool how you could watch them transform differently.  Related In this lab, I related to the knowledge behind genetic mutations, specifically in the chromosomes affecting humans. I am getting my masters in special education, so we learn a lot about how people born with Down syndrome have an extra chromoso...

Week 7  Learned This Week The first thing we did this week was check on our fast plants! We couldn't even get them out because they intertwined with our other classmate's plants. Then we went on and learned about genetics. We talked about dominant and recessive alleles and DNA structure and how all of those things play a role in the genetic makeup. We used dots and Twizzlers for our first activity to build a DNA structure. We used dots to represent the 4 main molecules in the nucleotides that make up the center of the DNA. Our A was yellow, T was green, and red was C. This was fun to build and an intriguing way to learn about DNA structure. After this, my partner and I had a baby! Haha, not really, but we declared what our allele types were and then used a coin to figure out our baby's specific features. We then had to do a reflection and reflect on the activity and what this activity would look like in real life.  Already Knew Because I took so many sciences in high school...

What we learned this week This week we did so many different activities. We checked on our fast plants, played a turtle game, and even identified our understanding of the 3d Model. Something that really stuck out to me this week was during our turtle activity. I know that turtles are very endangered due to all the trash that ends up in the ocean, but I had no idea how much cars affect turtles. During our turtle activity with the fortune teller, I died both times due to cars rolling over me on the beach. This is something I really never even thought about. We made a T-chart which helped us find the deeper purpose of the fortune-teller activity. We then created a model of our understanding of our turtle activity and placed it into a 3d model to show our understanding.  What I knew I knew that turtles have a really hard time surviving but I didn't realize that trash isn't the main reason. I knew that they were born with so many eggs in their litter but I didn't realize how few...
