Week 4 Lab

Learn this Week

This week we learned so many different things about our butterflies. We were able to see them in their pupa stage and relate it back to the life cycle we had been learning about. We then went and looked at our seeds we had planted and we were able to identify that they have been getting enough water, oxygen, h20 and sunlight/warmth and they have been growing beautifully.

Already Knew

We were able to use prior knowledge of a butterflies life cycle when we saw that they caterpillar had emerged into its pupa stage of life. Another thing we already knew was that our seeds were going to grow if they got the characteristics we needed to have to have them grow. We know that it would grow if it had enough water, oxygen and sunlight.

Clear and Confusing

I found it clear that the butterfly was growing and moving through the lifecycle based on the progression in moving from a caterpillar to a pupa. What I found confusing was how was the seeds getting enough water to grow if we only watered them once? How do we know how much water has been given well we were gone from them?

Apply to Future Teaching

These are both great things because they allow for the students to see real life progression of the seeds and the caterpillar and it lets them see them go through the life cycle in a real time representation. Another thing I will be able to apply to my future teaching is the 5e model presentation we made and presented to the class. This was all foreign information to me and did a great job of allowing us to know how to evaluate and understand science and how to teach it .

Remaining questions

How long does the butterfly stay in the pupa stage?
